Single Phase Voltage Regulator - JFR
As of October 1, 2008, our U.S. business is called Siemens Energy, Inc.
Description
We listened to our customers carefully and added improvements to the toughest, most reliable voltage regulator available. Our refined and improved JFR Regulator has just what you asked for and then some. We gave it more muscle : sealed tank, unit construction, stainless steel hardware. A tougher skin : electrostatically applied polyester paint for the worst environment. Then, we added the smartest microprocessor brain ever conceived for distribution regulation: the remarkable MJ-4A Control Panel . The whole sturdy package, with its cover-mounted terminal block, motor capacitor in the control cabinet, and external MOV by-pass arrester, is easy to use and easy to maintain.

Combining Innovation With Experience
For over a half century Siemens has led voltage regulator technology, continuously refining and improving its reliable, sturdy and innovative regulator product line. As far back as 1932, Siemens (through its predecessor, Alis Chalmers) originated the 5/8% step voltage regulator. Siemens was also first with unit construction that brought easier untanking for service. And in control technology, Siemens raced even further ahead of the field with innovations such as static controls, the Data/Pak Metering Module and microprocessor controls, including the new MJ-4A Control Panel with digital 2-way communications. Our experience in the manufacture of voltage regulators and controls is unsurpassed in the industry and today Siemens has the largest population of installed regulators in the United States, as well as worldwide.
A Siemens Commitment to Training, Service and Quality
Customers tell us that our service and training enjoy a reputation for quality and innovation. Since its inception in the early sixties, Siemens "College of Knowledge" has schooled thousands of regulator users in intensive training sessions. Other training sessions at customers' sites from a day to a week long have expanded our program even further. In an era when most manufacturers are reducing training and curtailing service budgets, Siemens is unique in its continuing commitment. We back up this broad customer training program with a highly qualified direct sales force and network of experienced manufacturer's representatives. At the factory, we maintain a master component index that cross-references regulator serial numbers and their individual part numbers. This index, the largest collection of regulator data ever published, is available to customers.

Features
•Tough, electrostatically applied polyester paint gives greater resistance to corrosion in harsh environments.
•Type 316 stainless steel hardware is standard on all JFR regulators for all external hardware. No rust. Non-galling. Better appearance.
•Sealed tank with pressure relief device to vent gases produced during tap changes. With a 65C insulation system, this allows a 12.5% additional loading while minimizing oil sludging and oxidation
•External MOV by-pass arrester gives superior protection to the regulator series winding from surge and system transients.
•Larger, more visible oil sight gauge allows oil level to be determined from ground level.
•Motor capacitor in the control cabinet allows replacement without taking the unit out of service.
•Single polarized jack plug facilitates easy control installation.
•Cover-mounted terminal block makes easier inspection of wiring with no need to go under oil to change tap connections.
•Microprocessor control the new state-of-the-art MJ-4A Control Panel.
•Sturdy coil and tap changer design provides short circuit through fault capability up to 25 times rated current for 2.0 seconds (max. 20,000 amps).
•High creep bushings provide a minimum creep distance of 17 inches. Sturdy coil and tap changer design provides short circuit through fault capability up to 25 times rated current for 2.0 seconds (max. 20,000 amps).

Retrofit
One disconnection allows faster field replacement with no need to remove the control panel enclosure from its mounting. Siemens regulators provide the easiest, simplest retrofit in the industry, including direct control interchangeability with all JFR Regulators built since 1958.
In any typical electrical distribution system, you will find equipment ranging in age from brand-new to 30, 40 or even 50 years old. Often, however, the older equipment is just as serviceable as the newer ones and only differs in the functionality of its controls.
Recently, regulator and tap changer controls have gone through significant technological enhancements that have allowed users to accurately monitor and control their electrical systems from remote locations, and generally have better control over their business.
With Siemens accessories and retrofit kits, utilities can now economically elevate the performance of older regulators and tap changers to the state-of-the-art level. And Siemens MJ-4A control sets that state-of-the-art standard for the industry.
Siemens MJ-4A control will give you the monitoring and data communication you will need to succeed now and into the next century. And with unique software packages, future upgrades are a snap.
Now there's no technical reason to stop you from upgrading your existing regulators and tap changers. We even have kits available to bring those regulators made by other vendors up-to-date with a modern Siemens tap changer controller.
The Voltage Regulator Retrofit Kit allows you to modernize your Cooper or GE regulators with the Siemens MJ-4A Tap Changer Control Panel. This easy-to-install kit, plus a new Siemens Control Panel (sold separately), creates new opportunities for advanced monitoring, communications and control.
