Description

Product Overview

Siemens has developed a family of dead-tank SF6 power circuit breakers from 15 to 242 kV. Designated the SPS2, the breaker entered service in October 1997. The SPS2 features a second generation arc-assist interrupter and an advanced spring operator. Both components are identical to those used globally in the Siemens live tank breakers and require virtually zero maintenance. The SPS2 is tested to both ANSI and IEC standards.

The breaker has been tested to 6,000 mechanical operations, and 3,000 operations at 6 kA. The SPS2 breaker is produced at the Siemens Power Transmission and Distribution plant in Jackson, Mississippi, USA. This state-of-the-art facility has a quality system certified to the requirements of the ISO 9000-2000 Standard. Factory assembly and testing eliminates the need for any field adjustments.

Since 1964 Siemens has been at the front of SF6 circuit breaker technology. Now the Research & Development Engineering Departments from Siemens USA and Siemens Germany have teamed up to develop a line of virtually maintenance free Dead-Tank SF6 power circuit breakers from 15.5kV to 245kV. The famed SPS2 line first entered service in October of 1997.

The SPS2 is proof that Siemens has "The Intelligence To Power Your Future."

Features

Application

High voltage SF6 power circuit breakers are suitable for use in utility and industrial systems where reliability, ease of installation and low cost of ownership are critical. Special applications include:

•Switching of capacitors.

•Cables and reactors.

•Environmentally restricted sites requiring oils sumps.

•System stability problems requiring three-cycle interrupting.

•Reclosing duty without de-rating interrupting capability.

•High contamination zones that require high creep and low contamination weather sheds.

•High altitude operation without de-rating.
