In 1976, Siemens supplied the first gas-insulated substation for a rated voltage of 420 kV.
An ongoing process of improvement has led to today's 8DQ1 suitable up to the 550 kV voltage range. With this type, a gas-insulated switchgear, notable for its high degree of versatility and reliability, has been developed.
